The votes are in
Submitted by greywulf on Sat, 12/06/2008 - 21:18.....and with 179 to 108, Orcs clearly beat Hobgoblins with an overwhelming 62% of the vote!
Orcs go on to face off against Kobolds in a future vote-off. This one, I suspect, will be too close to call.
What do you think?
Oooo! Shiny new look!
Submitted by greywulf on Sat, 12/06/2008 - 15:22.... and that's not all. Microlite20 has had a make-over under the hood (a make-under?) too, upgrading to the latest and greatest version of Drupal along the way. What this means, along with tighter internal security, is access to Yet More addons, modules, themes and other cool stuff I'll be introducing over the next few weeks.
First on the list is the ability to customize the look and feel, not only of this site, but your individual blogspace on it. Just go to your user profile to change your blog's theme and the overall look-and-feel on the site. If there's any themes you particularly like, or any you find for Drupal that you'd like adding into the mix, just let me know in the comments below.
Don't have a blog here on Microlite20 but want one? Make a donation in support of Microlite20 (at least a dollar makes me smile), mail me (greywulf (at) gmail.com) your preferred username and password and all this and more, dear boy, will be yours.
As with everything techie, there might well be some hiccoughs following the upgrade. If you spot any bugs or problems, please let me know asap. Thanks!
In the meantime, to coin a phrase, Make Mine Microlite!
d100 Kobolds
Submitted by greywulf on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 16:05I love pre-generated characters, me. They speed up the whole “preparing for a one-shot adventure” thing - just toss the characters in a pile, let the players fight over them then start playing. Hang onto the remainder ready for the inevitable replacement drop-in characters, and you’re done. They’re also a small window into the mind of the scenario writer, showing you the kind of characters that he (or she) expects to suit the game. If the pre-gens are all gritty warrior types and your players prefer deep angst-filled multi-class complexities then the scenario might not be for you.
It’s with all this in mind that I’ve thrown together a pdf containing not 4, 5 or 6 but 100 pre-generated Kobold characters primed and ready for my contribution to ChattyDM’s Project Kobold Love. In the best old-school Microlite20 style it’s a 2-page ugly unformatted table with one character per line, just like in the old Classic D&D modules. Have the players roll d100 to select a character, or if you’re the generous type let ‘em pick. Strike a line through that entry and use the rest of the list as backup characters, NPCs or anything else you can think of.
I’ve set the racial bonuses for these Microlite20 Kobolds at -2 STR, +2 DEX and +1 Subterfuge meaning these are agile, sneaky little buggers. The table it also skewed slightly in favour of Rogues, but all of the classes are pretty well represented.
Enjoy.

Microlite20 @ 2008 Pacificon Game Expo and Podcast news
Submitted by greywulf on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 09:29This just in from 1000buffalo:
Howdy All!
My (late) entries for the 2008 Pacificon Game Expo are off, and - as noted in the subject line - both games will use the Microlite20 rules.
The entries haven't posted through yet, but should be appearing in the next few days. Both games are slated for 3-6 players with a 4 hour run time.
I'll be running a Sat, 3pm session - "A Gallery of Evil" based on the Paizo module of the same name.
Sunday, 3pm, will be "Legacy of the Savage Kings" based on the DDC module.
As follow-up from the Con, I expect the Microlite will get some discussion on an upcoming episode of my podcast, 2d6 Feet in a Random Direction, as I generally talk about games I've recently run and the like.
Thanks!
Brian

Darn you evil upgrade!

All will be well soon though!Thank you for your patience.
Bruce Baugh reviews Microlite20 at Tor Books
Submitted by greywulf on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 14:32.... and likes it, a lot.
What's impressive about this is that it actually covers, in very simple form, at least three-quarters or so of what ever goes on in the typical D&D campaign. With these rules one can rule epic pre-written adventures and ongoing storylines, use great resources published for D&D over the decades, everything, just very fast. I got out the single hardest game writing gig I ever had, involving high-level necromancers for a 3rd edition D&D setting - one that went slower and involved more strain and calls for help than anything I've ever done - and found that, yes, I could convey their essence in just a few lines of rules and notes Microlite d20-style.
Thanks, Bruce!
(oh, and if you don't know just how prolific and downright awesome Bruce is as an author, here's his writing credits. When the Gamma World dude likes your
stuff, you're doing something right, eh?)
A heartfelt well done to contributors and players (and future players!) everywhere.
Microlite20 makes it into Roleplaying Tips
Submitted by greywulf on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 10:31Check it out here! A fair chunk of my post about the Microlite Skill System is right in there, with links to the rest of the content. It's great to see M20 getting more exposure, especially in these battlemat obsessed, rules-heavy days :)
Good stuff!
